TITLE: Literacy/Reading Specialists- Professional Development

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Possesses Bachelors of Science/Arts Degree in an Education Field related to Literacy

  1. Demonstrate positive, effective human relations abilities in working with clients of the Regional Office of Education.
  2. Demonstrate a history of team building, leadership and collaborative skills.
  3. Experience providing professional learning to adult learners.
  4. Other qualifications as deemed necessary by the Regional Superintendent
  5. Any of the above qualifications may be waived by the Regional Superintendent when necessary

 

REPORTS TO: Assistant Regional Superintendent

 

SUPERVISES: None

 

JOB GOALS: The literacy coach will promote reflection, provide guidance and structure where needed, and focus on strengths, collaboration, and common issues of concern. They are responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching, and providing feedback to teachers.



PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Model lessons in classrooms on a daily/weekly basis. 
  2. Support the instructional development of all teachers involved in the coaching program
  3. Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches. 
  4. Provide direction and coordination for how the curriculum is taught consistent with District initiatives and recognized best instructional practices. 
  5. Create an articulated schedule with building administration. 
  6. Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, and information to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources. 
  7. Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels.
  8. Familiarity with the ISBE Literacy Plan and initiatives.
  9. Strong understanding of various literacy curriculums and tools.
  10. Informally observe (non-evaluative) lessons and provide feedback for a teacher’s professional growth and students’ success. 
  11. Develop coaching plans for teachers to ensure student improvement. 
  12. Utilize Adult Learning Theory to motivate adult learners to improve professional practice. 
  13. Contribute to the development of systems and structures to improve teacher practice within schools. 
  14. Provide job-embedded informal professional learning beyond the coaching responsibility. 
  15. Submit a weekly coaching log and any pertinent data requests/coaching documentation.
  16. Assist with other projects as assigned.
  17. Perform in a manner to protect the confidentiality of information related to the Regional Office of Education and programs for which the position supports.
  18. Perform other related duties as assigned. 
  19. Work independently and efficiently following established guidelines.
  20. High proficiency in computer applications and operation of programs.
  21. Ability to produce accurate reports and records.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: To be set by the Regional Superintendent
