TITLE: Attendance Assistance Case Worker

QUALIFICATIONS:    

  1. Holds a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area to education, guidance, or student services OR equivalent experience working with vulnerable youth
  2. Possess a valid Illinois Drivers License.
  3. Perform physical activities including but not limited to standing, walking, lifting, running and climbing.
  4. Ability to treat every individual with respect and a high level of professionalism in a variety of circumstances.
  5. Any of the above qualifications may be waived by the Regional Superintendent when necessary.

REPORTS TO:   Attendance Assistance Program Director

SUPERVISES: None

JOB GOAL: Attendance Assistance Caseworker serves to provide for educational needs of students exhibiting issues with truant behavior. Case worker assists with prevention and intervention of attendance issues for grades Kindergarten through 12.  The Caseworker will promote full day school attendance with the goal of each student being in school each day, all day, with absences only when appropriately verified as excused by the parent/guardian or physician.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Service cases of excessive student absences when referred by school districts and enforce provisions of the Illinois Compulsory Attendance law.
  2. Communicate compulsory attendance laws and school policy to parents and students.
  3. Complete assessments and identify family needs through interaction as a means of support to correct attendance concerns.
  4.  Identify and refer to social services as needed.
  5. Assist in registration and enrollment of children in appropriate schools.
  6. Collaborate with schools regarding student/family residency concerns.
  7. Submit monthly reimbursement requests and reports when due
  8. Invite school principal or other school designee to TRB/Court when a student is expected to appear.
  9. Maintain accurate and complete records in the Attendance Assistance Program database and complete end of year reports. Including monthly reporting and monitoring. 
  10. Gather, prepare and deliver Truancy Review or other court documents.
  11. Maintain consistent communication with school personnel as it is related to any students referred to the program, including status updates on case opening/closing, court interventions or service recommendations.
  12. Work effectively and professionally as part of the I-KAN team.
  13. Comply with I-KAN policies and procedures.
  14. Participate in professional development to improve skills and share new knowledge with team members. 
  15. Be on time and an active participant for team meetings.  Seek and accept feedback to help work towards continuous improvement in your job performance for the AAP and for I-KAN.
  16. Manage time effectively in an effort to maximize productivity.  Maintain dependability and reliability within the workplace, school setting and at meetings.
  17. Return phone calls, emails, text messages in a timely manner.  
  18. Maintain confidentiality expectations.
